Stem Injection
Stem Injection of Japanese Knotweed

What is Stem Injection of Japanese Knotweed?
3 of the main types of invasive weed in the UK - Japanese Knotweed, Himalayan Balsam and Giant Hogweed have hollow stems which means that it is possible to inject herbicide directly into them. This stem injection of Japanese Knotweed is done with a specialist stem injection unit by a trained operator and different types of herbicide can be used depending on site conditions.
Why Use Stem Injection to Control Japanese Knotweed?
Japanese Knotweed can grow to be very tall, it often grows alongside water and it commonly grows amongst plants that are to be retained. Any of these reasons could mean that spraying is an unsuitable method of applying herbicide.
Direct injection of herbicide into the plant means that risk of overspray or spray drift is eliminated. This allows surrounding plants to be retained, guarantees application and means no contamination of water courses.
Because it is so targetted, stem injection is highly effective and can be conducted in all weather conditions. Results are rapid and assured and every stem can be treated.
