Tree Felling
Tree Felling and Sectional Felling

Tree Felling and Straight Felling
Tree felling is a term often given to removing a tree but tree removal is normally done using a number of different techniques such as Straight Felling, Sectional Felling or Dismantling.
Straight Felling is actually quite uncommon in an urban or sub-urban environment because of space restrictions and obstructions such as fences, green houses, over head telephone lines and so on.
Safely straight felling trees involves accurately making a number of cuts at the base of the tree so that it falls in the desired direction in a controlled manner. Other equipment such as felling bars, wedges or ropes may also be used to aid the felling of the tree.
Sectional Felling
Tree removal by a sectional fell will typically involve felling the tree in smaller sections. This is done so that the sections that fall will avoid obstructions that may be broken were they hit by a falling tree.
Most often a sectional fell on its own would be performed on conifers owing to the way in which they grow. Broad leafed trees more typically have an element of dismantling (see separate page) performed and then the remaining stem might be felled in sections depending on the space available.
The size of the sections depends on a number of different factors which will include, amongst others, the space available, the diameter of the piece to be felled and the type of surface it is going to fall onto.
